Motion to Parliament: Gellings Riding School

This week I have tabled an Early Day Motion in support of Gellings Riding School’s bid to acquire the land it is situated upon in order to secure its existence for future generations.

The riding school provides inclusive opportunities for education, health and wellbeing to residents in the entire Liverpool City Region including the provision of visually impaired riding facilities and the use of its stables for neuro-diverse young adults and those experiencing poor mental health.

A recent, devastating report on inequality in public health in Liverpool from our city’s Director of Public Health, Matt Ashton, revealed that people living in the poorest areas of Liverpool, including many in West Derby, live an average of 15 years less than those in the most affluent areas and live with poor health for 18 years longer.

it is against this backdrop access that we know the need for outdoor spaces and sporting facilities such as Gellings Riding School in Liverpool City Region residents are vital.

Gellings Riding School supports the mental and physical health, education and social and environmental development of people across the entire Liverpool City Region. It is a vital community asset and has been an integral part of the West Derby community for 30 years, which is why we must do everything we can to retain it.
